What does it mean if my lawn is brown and patchy?
This could be due to a myriad of reasons – from poor maintenance to something more drastic such as a lawn beetle infestation or other diseases. Other common reasons could be; lack of water, mowing the lawn too short or too long, not fertilising correctly or hydrophobic soil – common with Perth’s sandy soils.

What lawn types are best for Perth?
Some of the most popular types of lawn for Perth are Buffalo, Zoysia and Kikuyu as they are warmer-season varieties that suit the hotter Perth climate.
When should I fertilise my lawn?
If your lawn is more established, then it won’t need fertiliser too often. May is the best time to fertilise your lawn to give it a boost and give it the best chance of staying healthy and stronger throughout winter.
If your lawn is newly planted, you will need to apply small amounts every 6 weeks until your turf is established and the root systems have taken.
Can my brown lawn be saved or do I need to replace it?
If the root system is still intact, your lawn may simply be dormant and will come back after 3-6 weeks of regular irrigation and care. If it is completely dead, unfortunately, the solution is to remove it and install a new lawn. We can assess your lawn and provide our advice, along with a quote to supply and install a new lawn if that is what is needed – along with regular lawn care to ensure that doesn’t happen again!
What are best practices for lawn mowing?
Lawn mowing is one of the best ways to keep your lawn healthy – not just tidy. Regular mowing reduces weeds and susceptibility to disease and has a load of other benefits. What length should I mow my lawn?
It depends on the type of lawn you have, as well as the season, but in general, don’t cut more than two-thirds of grass length at a time. Generally in our Perth climate, don’t cut your lawn shorter than 20mm. Haven’t mowed your lawn in a while and it’s super long? Try not to cut grass height by more than one-third in one mow – you can space them out so it doesn’t stress the lawn too much in one go.
Can you edge my lawn as well?
Yes! We don’t just mow, but we edge, whipper snip, and maintain your entire garden during your service – then remove all the green waste and blow the area clean. Just select the package you would like and our gardeners will do the rest.
